OD200

The OD200 is the newest member of Oriveti’s dynamic driver lineup, positioned just above the recently launched OD100. It provides a distinct tuning option compared to the OH hybrid driver earphones and the all-BA O series. Featuring a custom-designed 9.8mm Be-coated dynamic driver, the OD200 aims to surpass the OD100 in performance. This ambitious upgrade is achieved through enhancements in the driver design, refined housing, an advanced pressure-balancing vent array, and Oriveti’s exclusive DAD system, all contributing to a superior audio experience.

DESIGN & BUILD QUALITY

The OD200 boasts a sleek CNC-milled metal shell with a sculpted ergonomic design, ensuring both durability and comfort. One of its standout features is the exchangeable tuning nozzles, allowing users to customize their listening experience. The earphones are finished in a stunning British Racing Green, a distinct color that adds a touch of elegance and flair.

Beneath its stylish exterior, the OD200 houses a sophisticated internal structure. Multiple sound chambers work in harmony to balance airflow and manage reflections around the dynamic driver, ensuring optimal performance. The matte finish not only enhances its aesthetic appeal but also resists fingerprints and scratches, maintaining its pristine look over time.

At the heart of the OD200 is a 9.8mm Beryllium-Coated Diaphragm Dynamic Driver. This high-performance driver is complemented by a patent-pending Dedicated Airflow Distribution (DAD) design. This innovative feature optimizes airflow within the earphone housing, significantly enhancing sound quality and driver performance.

The core of the OD200's tuning lies in its ingenious path tube system. This design directs airflow from the rear chamber to the front chamber, with side nozzles acting as additional vents. These nozzles function similarly to speaker cabinet tuning ports, fine-tuning the drivers and chambers for a balanced and dynamic sound.

COMFORT

The OD200 is a medium-sized, ergonomically designed IEM that offers outstanding comfort and style. These earphones fit snugly into the outer ear, perfectly matching its anatomical contours. This precise fit ensures both stability and comfort, making them ideal for extended listening sessions. If you have particularly small ears, you might want to consider the OD100, but for most people, the OD200 will provide excellent comfort.

Thanks to its ergonomic design, the OD200 minimizes pressure points, allowing for prolonged use without discomfort. The seal is superb, thanks to the well-shaped housings and nozzles, ensuring a secure fit. While the stock silicone ear tips are quite good, we highly recommend using Moondrop spring tips for an even better fit and enhanced comfort.

SOUND

The OD200 is our first Oriveti IEM, and it has truly impressed us. Let’s dive into its sound signature. The included tuning nozzles significantly enhance overall coherence. While the silver nozzles are objectively superior, offering a balanced and relaxing sound, some may prefer the extra clarity and vocal forwardness of the black nozzles. This inclusion provides flexibility, though the default tuning might not appeal to everyone.

Personally, I find the silver nozzles to be the best choice for their balanced and soothing sound, and they will be my go-to for this review. This adaptability allows the OD200 to excel across a wide range of music genres, faithfully reproducing detail, clarity, and realism. Its accurate soundstage and precise imaging further enhance immersion, creating a spacious and engaging listening experience.

BASS

The bass on the OD200 is fast across both tuning nozzles, however, the silver nozzle provides a tight, controlled bass with excellent extension and impact. This results in a more focused and centered sub-bass representation. The DAD System enhances this presentation, offering notable benefits. With the silver nozzle, the warm mid-bass hump makes the OD200 enjoyable for most genres. While the tuning may smooth over some fine textures and the separation could be better, the OD200 still offers a smooth, rich sound with a good level of detail retrieval.

MID

The mids on the OD200 are organic and natural, showcasing a technically precise and balanced sound with the silver nozzle. Female vocals particularly shine with the black nozzles, creating a slightly more balanced experience, though the upper-midrange intensity affects the vocal timbre. With the silver filters, the sound becomes more relaxed and coherent, improving separation even though the mids and treble take a step back compared to the mid-bass.

Vocals are delightfully rich and coherent, with a tone that is lightly warm. The presentation is well-defined, with a notable density and body derived from the slightly wide midrange hump and upper-mid tuning. Oriveti has crafted a smooth and coherent sound that remains natural, balanced, and versatile. With the silver nozzle, the OD200 truly shines, offering a versatile and enjoyable listening experience.

Oriveti OD200 and Fiio Q15

HIGH

The treble of the Oriveti OD200 is well-rounded, delivering a crisp and airy sound with good extension and sparkle. With the silver nozzles, the treble is smooth and refined, never harsh or sibilant. The lower treble has a subtle elevation that adds crispness and detail, enhancing midrange articulation.

The OD200 offers enough resolving power to provide a good sense of layering, though it lacks a bit of atmosphere and air. Details are more prominent with the black nozzles, but the silver nozzles offer a more natural and well-textured sound, albeit with slightly less air and detail.

With the silver nozzle, the OD200 achieves a perfect balance of shimmer and sparkle at higher frequencies, avoiding any unnatural or piercing tones. While it may not deliver the most pronounced top-end, it offers a refined and focused presentation, showcasing smooth, well-textured, and sophisticated high notes.

SOUNDSTAGE & IMAGING

The OD200 delivers a stage that's average in size, with sound dimensions that are solid but not extraordinary given the price and form factor. It provides a well-balanced width and depth, creating a rounded and immersive soundscape. The imaging and positioning are strong, with instruments and vocals precisely placed within the soundstage, enhancing realism and coherence.

The transient response of instruments is notably better with the black nozzle, while the silver nozzle excels in delivering a musical and natural timbre for both vocals and instruments. However, separation could be improved, as the warmer sound with roll-off at both ends results in less defined space between elements compared to more neutrally tuned earphones.

PARINGS

The OD200 is sensitive IEM, but not overly prone to hiss. With a low impedance of 16 ohms and a sensitivity of 108dB, it pairs well with even weaker sources like smartphones.

Oriveti OD200 and Pegasus SG1

When matched with the SG1, the OD200 delivers a warm sound signature with a well-defined punch and layering in the bass. The soundstage expands slightly, and the dynamic range becomes more pronounced. Similarly, when paired with the Fiio Q15, a dynamic portable amp, the combination proves highly engaging. On acoustic tracks, the OD200 adds a rich timbre, and the guitar strings gain a more impactful presence, making for a compelling listening experience.
